About

I am a freelance web designer and programmer based in Newquay, Cornwall. I have been designing websites for the past ten years, since studying a design degree at Brighton University.

Coming from a design background I am well aware of the importance of presentation, and have built a strong knowledge of a number of graphics packages. For the majority of web graphics out of preference I use Adobe Fireworks, however I am also very familiar with Flash and Photoshop.

Not happy with lack of control over the output from visual editors I have spent the majority of the past ten years writing HTML , ASP and CSS by hand using Windows Notepad. This gives the advantage of knowing exactly why the page displays how it does.

More recently since updating to ASP.NET I have been using Microsoft Visual Web Developer. This allows the more efficient production of ASP.NET applications, whilst still being able to get my hands dirty behind the scenes.

On the technical side of things my skills include:

  • XHTML – The coding language used to produce standard website features
  • CSS (Cascading stylesheets) – The standard for implementing style and formatting across a website. Providing consistency in appearance and making future changes as simple as possible to implement. They also play a vital role in ensuring the accessibility of your site.
  • ASP.net (C#) – Microsoft’s Programming language for building rich web applications, from a simple email form through to a product catalogue.
  • Microsoft Visual Web Developer - Microsoft's tool designed for the development of Asp.net websites
